Salty Dog Properties was founded August of 1998 by Tom Lumsden. We focus on building turn-key homes in the northern neck and middle peninsula areas, with the goal of providing cost effective waterfront vacation and retirement waterfront Homes with minimal hassle.

Salty Dog Properties is a Custom Home Builder in the Northern Neck of Virginia. The Company was founded August of 1998 by Tom Lumsden. After going through the hassles of trying to build a waterfront weekend/vacation home away from home in the Northern Neck of Virginia, Tom saw a need for a Company that would focus on building turn-key vacation and retirement homes in Chesapeake Bay waterfront and water oriented areas that were within 3 hours of Washington DC, Northern Virgina and Richmond Virginia, with the goal of providing cost effective waterfront and water-oriented vacation and retirement Home with minimal hassle.
During the early years while Tom was still in the technology industry Tom would build 1 or 2 “spec” homes a year on the eastern shore of Maryland. Overtime the cost of waterfront land on the eastern shore had risen to a level that made it impractical to build spec homes. Tom’s background in operations and project management in the technology industry as well as new home construction made his transition in 2002 to focusing full time on Salty Dog Properties an easy one. The Northern Neck was chosen as the primary place of business because the waterfront land is still reasonably priced and available compared to other waterfront areas. Overtime customers that had purchased Salty Dog Properties home/land packages were pleased with the quality of the workmanship referred friends and family to have homes build on land that they already owned.
